Children pray in the hall for group worshipWhole School Collective Worship

Mr Conway plans and leads Collective Worship with the whole school at the beginning and end of every week.  It is linked to the scripture and Gospel readings from Sunday Mass, as well as relevant themes linking to our liturgical year and diocesan themes such as, St Francis, Year of Mary and Oscar Romero.

On other days, Class Teachers, alongside their pupils, plan and deliver collective worship for their children. This links to the liturgical year as well as events of the week.

Classes will often take turns to lead a liturgy for the whole school, and we arrange whole school mass in St Joseph’s Catholic Church, which families and parishioners are invited to attend.

Class Worship

Children are supported in planning and leading liturgies in class, sometimes with their Teacher and sometimes independently. They are encouraged to think about how they will gather, they listen carefully to the Word and think about their mission in carrying out the Gospel message within their daily lives at both school and home. They develop a wonderful sense of awe and wonder about the small things they can do to help make a big difference. They recognise that praying is one of those things.

  • Our class liturgies show progression in terms of leadership and as the children reach Key Stage 2 they become liturgy leaders; leading independently in small groups.

  • Pupil read out of a book to the class as part of REOur prayer room is situated at the very heart of the school. The Chapel is a quiet place to think, reflect and pray and is also a place for community worship and joyful celebration.

  • The prayer life of the school is embedded, intrinsic and authentic. Pupils undertake liturgical roles with confidence, understanding and skill.

  • Our governors of the school have high expectations for Collective Worship outcomes and provision.
