About Mini Vinnies 

Mini Vinnies are part of the worldwide work of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP)—a Catholic organisation dedicated to helping those in need. The Mini Vinnies programme allows primary school children to put their faith into action by following the simple but powerful mission of the SVP: 

“See, Think, Do.” 

At St Joseph’s, our Mini Vinnies are encouraged to recognise Christ in themselves and in others through prayer, reflection, kindness and service. The group helps children understand that even the smallest actions, done with love, can make a real difference.

Mini Vinnies at St Joseph’s 

Our Mini Vinnies group is supported by our staff, who help the children explore prayer, Scripture and practical ways of supporting. Each session includes: 

  • A prayer 

  • A Scripture reading 

  • Time for reflection 

  • Discussion about how to put faith into action 

  • Planning acts of charity and service 

Children learn to look carefully at the world around them, think about the needs they see, and respond with compassion. This is rooted in the values of Catholic Social Teaching, especially: 

  • The Dignity of the Human Person – every person is precious and loved 

  • The Common Good – we work to make life better for everyone 

  • Solidarity – we stand alongside people in need 

  • The Option for the Poor – we focus especially on those who need the most support 

Through Mini Vinnies, children grow in empathy, leadership and understanding, shaping them into young people who want to make a positive difference. 

Turning Concern Into Action 

Our Mini Vinnies take the lead in identifying ways they can support others within: 

  • Their families 

  • Our school community 

  • The parish 

  • The local area and the wider world 

They actively search for opportunities to show kindness, raise awareness, and offer practical help.

Being part of the Mini Vinnies helps our pupils to:
